I have read all the opinions of how it is possible for Seven of Nine and Chakotay becoming a pair and made a point of watching the shows that were supposed to direct me at this burgeoning relationship. I still cannot get my head or heart around the concept. It does not work! The only reason that does make sense is desperation. But as it must be the case (Paramount says so!)

I always look forward to these dinners. It is a chance to see and talk to so many friends from our journey. Not that they will all be there of course.

Tom will be of course, happy to talk about his new book. But I'm not sure about B'Elanna, she may have stormed out again.

Tuvok is doubtful as well, because of his illness, but Harry Kim will be. He is doing very well, better than even I expected, now he is concentrating. He will be an admiral before much longer, the Delaney's missed a good thing there.

Then there will be the Doctor and his holographic partner. I dare say he will be discussing 'Holo-graphic Rites', but we rarely listen and he can be distracted.

Chakotay and Seven will be there as well.

Poor Seven, she really did not know what she was letting herself in for, they really had so little in common. Chakotay has to be driven.

I admit I was a little upset when they told me. I loved Seven dearly and Chakotay and I were so close. I'd even semi-promised myself that I would take it up when we got home. Perhaps she has done me a favour?

Certainly there was no-way Mark and I could have continued and as Tuvok would have said 'Chakotay would have been a logical choice', he kept my head screwed on when things were going wrong.

I pity the poor woman that married Mark, then she didn't seem to know any better, at least not at the homecoming party. Too gushing. It took me seven years to realise he is was such an armchair admiral.

So I here I am still a spinster of the parish.

But I am an Admiral and I am kept busy, that keeps me happy. It stops me thinking about what could have been, there is even a rumour of an award.

Still after I wrap up the party with my speech, I head of into the semi-unknown again. I’ve invited Seven, Chakotay and the others to come along. Almost like old times.

I’ve even commandeered Harry Kim’s ship for the expedition.

A perk of the job.

Though I doubt Seven will come along. I told her it was an archaeological investigation, right in Chakotay’s field, but not Seven’s. She prefers to advance science, not look at where it’s from. Even the research job I got for her, seems to bore her. She needs to achieve to be happy. So it will be just Chakotay and I again.

I really must find something new to say for my closing speech. They’ve heard all my jokes and stories so many times, they laugh before the punchline.
